Rock Cycle- is a basic concept in geology that
describes the dynamic transitions through geologic time among the three main rock types: sedimentary, metamorphic, and
igneous
Igneous rocks are formed from the solidification of molten rock material Sedimentary rock: types of rock that are formed by the deposition of material at the Earth's surface and within bodies of water Metamorphic rock: have been changed over time by extreme pressure and heat. Law of Superposition: the youngest layer is on top and the oldest on bottom, each layer being younger than the one beneath it and older than the one above it. Relative age (dating): The geologic age of a fossil organism, rock, or geologic feature or event defined relative to other organisms, rocks, or features or events rather than in terms of years. Absolute age (dating): is the process of determining an approximate computed age in archaeology and geology. Weathering is the breaking down of rocks, soil and minerals as well as artificial materials through contact with the Earth's atmosphere Erosion: processes (such as water flow or wind) which remove soil and rock from one location on the Earth's crust, then transport it to another location where it is deposited. Deposition: refers to the settling out or placement of rock, particles of rock, or organic matter, generally referred to as sediments Compaction: the consolidation of sediments resulting from the weight of overlying deposits. Cementation: hardening and welding of clastic sediments |

Crust- a layer of solid rock that includes both dry land and ocean floor. Mantle- a layer of very hot but solid rock that contains convection currents. Outer core-a layer of molten (liquid) metal. Inner core-a dense ball of solid metal. Conduction-heat transfer between materials that are touching. Convection-heat transfer by the movement of fluid. Heat transfer –the movement of energy from a warmer object to a cooler object. |

Conclusion-the end or finish of an event or process.

Repetition-the action of repeating something that has already been said or written. In an experiment repetitions increases accuracy and are known as trials. Replication- the act of making an accurate copy of an experiment so that it can reproduced by other scientist. |

Experiment- a scientific procedure to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate an known fact. Control-isolates the effect of one variable on a system by holding constant all variables but the one under observation. |

Independent Variable- The one variable that is purposely changed to test a hypothesis.
Dependent Variable- The factor that may change in response to the independent variable.
